  13.                STATEMENT OF VICE PRESIDENT AL GORE
  14.  
  15.      Tipper and I extend our deepest sympathies to former 
  16. President Richard Nixon and his family at this time of such great 
  17. loss.  We know we share with millions of Americans the memory of 
  18. Patricia Ryan Nixon, her selfless dedication and great service to 
  19. our country.
  20.  
  21.      Mrs. Nixon was a compassionate mother and a devoted wife who 
  22. raised two beautiful daughters.  She was a model of selfless 
  23. service and devotion to her country.  As First Lady, she was a 
  24. strong supporter of volunteerism and community service and a 
  25. believer in equal rights for women who set an example through her 
  26. actions.

  28.      She was known by her family and friends as a kind and 
  29. compassionate person with an inner strength to her graceful 
  30. composure.  Both at home and abroad, she was honored as a 
  31. gracious and dignified hostess.
  32.  
  33.      Mrs. Nixon's legacy will not be soon forgotten.  She's 
  34. embedded in our country's collective memory as one of its  
  35. finest.  We are proud and grateful to Mrs. Nixon for all that she 
  36. has done.  We will miss her greatly.  Our hearts and prayers are 
  37. with the Nixon family and their many friends during this time.
